Breakthrough - Oil on Canvas - 8 x 10

One rare weekend in February, it was 40 degrees here in Maine, and I decided to take a chance and make the drive to Acadia. I didn’t know what to expect in the winter, and it was forecasted to be mostly cloudy, which isn’t my favorite weather condition when I’m trying to get good painting ideas.

I went to Thunder Hole and walked along the rocky coastline, my pictures weren’t coming out great so I just sat and listened. The hush felt energized, as if Acadia had a chance to fully breathe and be herself without the crowds of admiring fans. I stayed longer than I intended to, and as I began to leave, the clouds suddenly parted and the sun illuminated the rocks for an instant to reveal the orange undertones that I love so much.

It was a moment of breakthrough. Not just in the skies, but in my soul as I realized how easily I could have missed this moment. It reminded me that blessings await those who faithfully show up to an endeavor even when the circumstance feels like just another mediocre overcast winter day.

This painting is sold with a custom floating frame included in the price and is available to purchase at Argosy Gallery in Bar Harbor, Maine.
