Passing Storm - Oil on Canvas - 16 x 20

I started this piece a few years ago because I love the atmosphere right before a storm breaks. The clouds, dark and ominous—yet, in those few moments of peace before the tempest the fields and trees seem to glow despite the coming rain. Although the concept excited me, this piece never came together until I moved to Maine. The whole painting got a new layer of paint as I observed these skies in person over Maine farmland. Only this time, I felt it in my soul. Though, perhaps my favorite part about this painting isn’t the drama in the sky, but the essence of Maine. I love the evergreens, the treasured farms that have been in families for generations, the freshly cut wood in preparation for the long winter ahead. This is the heart of Maine.
