I have always wanted to capture the feeling of Pemaquid on a perfect summer’s day. Honestly if you ask me to think of quintessential Maine in one moment, my mind would go here first. Because of how the rocks are situated, it’s challenging to get a good angle of the lighthouse with the expanse of the ocean. But when I am standing here on these rocks, the two are inseparable. The spirit of Pemaquid lighthouse is woven into the fabric of the waves. I went back on three separate trips to try to get source photos, but it wasn’t until my kids asked me to buy them something to drink from the restaurant next to the lighthouse park that I finally found my angle. This restaurant isn’t always open, but on this particular occasion it was and I was able to climb on their rocks, stand on my tiptoes, and take a shot that would allow me to paint this scene. The true feeling of Pemaquid.
