Amid my wandering along the coastline of Reid State Park, I noticed this pine tree separated from the rest. Perched stoically along the edge of Maine’s rugged coast, this tree stood as an outlier against the forces of wind and sea. I was mesmerized by it—drawn closer step by step—it was as if the briny air whispered stories to me of its enduring solitude and unyielding strength. A symbol of joyful tenacity, as it stood silhouetted against the cloudy sky. But even though the skies were gray, there was the glimmer of a silver lining.
