This painting was inspired by a trip that I took as I sailed on the ferry from Rockland to Vinalhaven in the early Summer. It was a blustery day, the ocean was churning and there was the hint of an approaching storm. But what stirred my heart the most was seeing all the small islands that we passed on our journey. It awakened a childlike wonder and a desire to scale the rocks in search of a new uninhabited world. This is the Maine that I want to leave to my sons, I want them to always feel the wonder of untouched beauty as they travel throughout this amazing state. I have found Mainers to be extremely passionate about preserving the beauty of Maine, leaving it as untouched as possible, for future generations. And it has inspired me to do the same.
